Also outside Alice Springs is "Palm Valley". Because of a unique combination of rock layers, water is collected from all over the desert and funneled underground into this valley, which allows a couple of palm trees to survive in the desert.
Incidentally, there are no palm trees on this photo. They have already been photographed to death for postcards.
